Sint Maartenszee

Sint Maartenszee

This picturesque village, which is not found through a navigation system, is a real holiday village. Very few people live in Sint Maartenszee on the North Sea. The village consists of several holiday parks and campsites. It takes 10 minutes to walk through the beautiful dunes to the wonderfully wide beach. Here you will find two beach pavilions where you can enjoy a romantic sunset whilst sipping a glass of rosé: Strandpaviljoen Zuid and Strandpaviljoen Noord. Strandpaviljoen Zuid is open all year round, allowing you to enjoy the high waves during an autumn storm while enjoying a cup of steaming chocolate milk as well. The children can play around in amusement park De Goudvis, while the parents enjoy the sun on the nearby terrace. Car boot fairs are also organized regularly at De Goudvis, since 1987, every summer month on Mondays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and other bulb flowers

The vicinity of St. Maartenszee looks magical in the spring. It is a true splendor of colors when the crocus, daffodils, hyacinths, and tulip fields bloom in succession.  You imagine yourself in a painting by an old Dutch master when cycling along the fields. The experience park Land van Fluwel (formerly Fluwels Tulpenland) on the Belkmerweg in Sint Maartenszee is a place you must visit. Here you will find a go-kart track, the hide and seek forest, a climbing course, the Beach of Fluwel, the flower bulb wagon and, of course, beautiful flower bulb fields.

In Land van Fluwel you will learn about the history of the tulip bulb through a creative circuit. At the end of your journey of discovery, you can reminisce with a snack and drink in the 'coffee stable'. Or you can purchase a nice souvenir in the well-equipped souvenir shop.

Shopping and eating out

There are several restaurants, shops and entertainment venues in Sint Maartenszee.

Dogs on the beach?

No problem! Pets are very welcome on the beach. Between 1 May and 1 October on a leash between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., but outside these times dogs are allowed to run loose on the beach in the entire municipality of Schagen.

In addition to the North and New South beach pavilions and Restaurant De Huiskamer of St. Maartenszee (de Goudvis), you can also visit Duinerij Eeterij en Drinkerij on the Westerduinweg, Eetcafe van Dam (Belkmerweg), Pizzeria O Sole Mio (Zeeweg), Pancake Restaurant Land van Fluwel. In the adjacent Schagerbrug you will also find the restaurants Brasserie de Keuken, China Wok and Rondom Gelukkig.

Walking in nature

Het Wildrijk nature reserve is a true paradise for nature lovers. In the spring, thousands of wild hyacinths bloom here.

A facelift for Sint Maartenszee?

After Petten and Callantsoog, it is finally Sint Maartenszee's turn. The municipality has reserved money to refurbish Sint Maartenszee. For example, lighting will be installed on the footpath through the dunes to the sea in the foreseeable future. The vantage point in the dunes is being renovated and the build of a second vantage point is being investigated. The road safety of Zeeweg/Belkmerweg and Zeeweg/N9 is being investigated. An eye-catcher to be placed at the entrance of Sint Maartenszee is also being considered. Hopefully, they will start construction soon!

Solar-powered BEACH Bus

In the summer months, a solar-powered beach bus drives through the dunes of Sint Maartenszee to bring visitors to the beach in an environmentally friendly way.

Disabled persons, exemption beach entrance

If you have difficulty walking or are disabled, you can obtain a chip for the barrier at GREAT-Vakantiehuizen after showing your disability pass or doctor's certificate, enabling you to go to the beach by car.

Sea fishing

Petten beach is an excellent place for sea fishing. You can catch almost all sea fish species that you can expect on the Dutch coast. In spring and fall, you can expect a lot of flatfish. Young cod and whiting can be found there from October to April. You can catch eel, sole, and sea bass there from May to October.
